Have you ever sat and watched a spider build its web? I remember before being a mum, sitting down one evening at a barbecue watching a Golden Orb spider spin its web. It was HUGE, at least 3/4 of a metre round. It was beautiful. Watching the spider build its web took some time, but it got there!
Thinking back to that night, makes me think of a mum building her web as she brings her children up. Every single line of web spun is another thing a mum has accomplished to help her child succeed. A book read to them to where they read the book to you – learning to peddle on a little trike to being able to ride a bike without any training wheels. Small accomplishments that build into the end goal.
We keep building our children up and up, celebrate their accomplishments and celebrate more when they reach their goals. Like a spider, keeps spinning its web, once one part is complete, it moves onto the next.
But a spider can relax once it is done, I wonder when we are ‘done’ bringing our children up…
I know I still rely on my dad for support and love, so maybe we are never done, but just keep going and going and going and going?!
Or maybe do we succeed once our child has been successfully brought up and has their own family? Or if they have a successful job or career?
Where would you think you would be ‘done’ with bringing your child up? When do you think your web will be complete?
