Hello!

My daughter turned 12 yesterday and I had her back at the Doctor today. For almost 2 years when she was born I could not feed her (breast fed) without a “chuck cloth” handy. It wasn’t till I learnt more that I realised she had reflux, but no nurse or Doctor had ever picked up on this before.

As she has grown she has often had stomach complaints and countless times we have been told, its a virus or its constipation (which she has had) or better still it was anxiety. This morning she was in a lot of pain and her stomach felt hard so I took her back to the clinic but saw a different doctor who said she has reflux. It was like a light bulb went on over my head and I realised that she has probably suffered from this same complaint most of the other times. Now we know we can watch and modify her diet and give her medication to relieve her pain.

So many times recently I have heard of similar stories and wonder how many other people have had this experience, where doctors have misdiagnosed or incorrectly diagnosed conditions? I know they’re only human and some conditions are more difficult to diagnose, but find it annoying.

  • Seems these day most Drs don’t have gut instinct to help customers ,not Patients anymore .Its what’s the matter ,oh ur not terminal ,bye .As patient regularly I find it hard to get proper diagnosis .

  • I’d be interested to know what the dr recommends. My 3 year old has sufferend from reflux all his life. He was on a compounding medicine which worked wonders while he was taking it but since he has stopped (he could only be on it 6 months) he’s pretty back to where he was. I was hoping it would correct itself (like the drs said it should) but it doesn’t seem to be.

  • I have the best doctor. She takes the time to listen and gives a thorough examination.

  • I think it must be extremely difficult to be a doctor, and correctly diagnose very time. There are so many things, and different people present with different symptoms, it must be so hard to determine the issue. However, if in doubt, they should spend more time exploring and getting opinions of specialists, etc..
