Hello!

I have a disabled 13 yr old daughter. I thought that having her play a txt based game on a new tablet I bought her would be perfect for lateral thinking, memory ect ect . There were rules with this tablet – she was not allowed to take it in her room, she was not allowed to use the internet on it without permission and no more than a set time each day. One night I found her playing this game in her bedroom. She was banned from all internet for 2 weeks. Then she took the tablet, snuck it in her room and was playing it – I got it off of her before she cleared the screen – there was the perfect setup with a man in private chat for cyber sex. He had also convinced her to download an adult chat site ( and you can imagine what goes on there).

I hit the roof! I couldn’t believe my child would break all the safety rules – like you can only talk to the admins – we had the talk with her about predators ect ect ect!!!!!!

She was banned for a month – again she stole the tablet – basically out from under our noses – now she is not a child that has ever done anything like this in her life!!!! And then it hit me – she is addicted to this game and the attention the predators give these kids.!!

I now have a lock box that all electronics go into and the comps are password protected. Even the phones go into the lock box! These games can be played on tablets, phones, ipod touch and other internet devices. So please be very aware!!!!! And always have acess to all of your children’s accounts!!!!

  • Our 9 y.o. is not allowed on the computer, including YouTube unless one of us is sitting with her. If she refuses to get of something scary (she gets nightmares) or anything I don’t consider suitable and she hides the mouse I simply push the button on the black box. She is allowed to play 3 particular games. If I have to leave her side very briefly for some reason and find she has changed to another section of the computer she is automatically banned.

  • Gosh! How terrifying! Thank you so much for sharing your story! I’m so sorry this has happened! I’m very glad you found out before any lasting damage was incurred though. Hopefully your daughter has learnt some valuable lessons. :)

  • That is absolutely disgusting! These low life’s will sink to any level to suck our kids in. Thank you for the heads up and the great idea of a lock box for these devices

  • My 8yo son’s iPad has significant restrictions on it. I have restricted downloading apps, and all internet activity other than approved (by me) websites. He can’t do anything without putting in a password. Adding restrictions is really quite easy.

  • Oh goodness! How scary for you (and her!). I am not looking forward to my little ones reaching that age. It’s a scary world out there in cyberspace.

  • oh my gosh! that really is amazing. i supervise my children but they are still little and need the help to play games. you would think that a child, being a bit older, that they would be more wary and cautious. It is wrong how sick people will treat children this way. I think that you are right in disciplining your child. Maybe she should not have access to the tablet but instead just the family computer that is in the lounge room. Maybe you should look up more child safety software for your computer and tablet so that she actually can’t access these things even if she did manage to sneak the tablet out again. Definately go over the safety conversation again. You want her to feel like she can come and talk to you about anything without judgement and try not to make her feel like it is you vs her which i think that is happening a little bit here.

  • You can never be too careful, and unfortunately there are some very sick & perverted bastards out there. Thankfully you are aware of the dangers, and you care enough to make sure you do everything to keep your daughter safe. I wish that all parents cared as much as you.
