So much excitement over our very first kindy fundraiser – selling cookie dough.
With him coming from a large family, I have watched everyone over the years support all the kids fundraisers without question, and we too have scraped together money to help out.
Naturally I assumed we would be given similar support.
I explained to her how she would need to show her Aunts and Uncles the form, they would write on it, we would take it to kindy, then deliver the goods.
I did not expect an hour long “discussion” on how shocked they were at the price, that they were appalled they would have to bake the cookies themselves, and the fact I could not justify the fundraising committee’s decision to their satisfaction.
Of the 23 adult members of his side of the family, not a single one ordered anything.
Having been so excited, I ended up crushed and really hurt that they could not support my daughter at the cost of $16, yet would happily fork out $30 or more on lollies from other nieces and nephews fundraisers.
The worst part of all is when we got home, she quickly turned the pages to the order form, and her little face fell when she realised no one had written on it.
I am still furious and hurt by this, but I cannot step back enough to work out if I am over reacting…

  • Fund raising can always be difficult; sorry you had this experience.

  • I’d be crushed as well. At the very least they could have pooled funds to make an order.

  • I can understand you feeling disappointed at family since you were a loyal supporter or their kids, however I can see their perspective too. They probably happy to pay the overinflated price but then having to baked cookies too? I think I’d pass on this one too.

  • I had a very similar experience with the Cookie Dough fundraiser. I have no trouble selling things for a few dollars each or even raffle tickets but the only person I could sell cookie dough to, was my mum :( Everyone else said it was way to expensive or didn’t have time to cook biscuits.

  • No, your not over reacting. Yes the dough is a little on the expensive side, but it’s a fundraiser for their neice! Not a strangers child. Geez!
