Hello!

At the beginning of every new season, I clean out the wardrobe, linen cupboard and pantry. It is a good way of making sure I stay on top of keeping the house tidy. I donate the clothes that are no longer needed to our local charity shop. The old and raggedy towels get cut up into rags. It is a good way to refresh the pantry and get some new inspiration in the kitchen.

  • That is very diligent of you . It is a good habit. I ususally do a Spring clean every year only because I think of summer coming up for a fresh clean . I threw a lot of old clothes away after new year and it was so old I couldn’t donate. Think I will try and do it a bit more often !

  • I also use old cotton clothes that go too thin to wear or get holes in them as they have worn out for rag, if the guys don’t get to it first. It is great for the guys who work as tradesmen as it can be used to clean up any spills, clean tools, to get surplus dirt, oil etc off their hands, or just grime. If they wash their hands outside first, they can also dry their hands on one. Synthetic materials aren’t absorbant. When you try to clean a mess of any type up often you smear it around instead. Old underwear can be used too….if it cotton. Big pieces can be cut into sections to make a lot of smaller pieces. I know relatives who used rag as dishcloths, other pieces of rag to dust the furniture, or even wash marks off the floors. Always make sure you remove ant buttons, zips and studs. Before the introduction of car chamois soft rag was used to wash, dry off the paintwork, rag to polish the car and clean it off. Shoe polish was put on shoes with a shoe brush, then cleaned off with an old woollen sock.

  • So rather than spring cleaning, it is seasonal cleaning!
