Hello!

Bathtime at our house involves 5 kids in the bathroom all at once. And it’s noisy, I’m convinced my neighbour can hear us each night. We collect towels, pj’s and nappies as we go and march upstairs together. We are lucky enough to have 3 bathrooms in our house but the bath is upstairs (at our last house the main bathroom was downstairs and it was fabulous, if I ever design a house for small children then do the main bathroom downstairs as it just works!).

I put the stair gate back on at the top of the stairs (safety first!), I walk along the corridor to the bathroom and the kids run, crawl, do wheelbarrows and carry on till we get there. I run the bath, kids strip down, they usually squeal and run up and down the hallway, I pump in a few squirts of bath wash, the big kids take it in turns or jump in the shower which is next to the bath, hair is washed if necessary and when I say get out it’s time to get out. The littlest ones are the last ones out, dried, dressed and they run around in the big kids bedrooms while I sort out dirty clothes, towels and clean up the bathroom. I get all the fun jobs in this house but once bath time is done I feel a bit more relaxed and know that bedtime and some peace and quiet is coming my way.

  • Bath time is a chaotic free for all at our house too. And yes, the final hurdle before bed time and peace.

  • What a fun sounding household you have. You sound so organised with your big family. I used to bath three at once but I wouldn’t have coped with five.

  • Thats a fond (and beautifully written!) memory to keep for when they are teens who either sullenly refuse to bathe or lock themselves in the bathroom for hours! (you’ll be thankful for the three bathrooms then!)
