Hello!

So this year I have been granted full time custody of my son, which is just heaven sent. Christmas is upon us and it is a beautiful time. I work full time and have no family in the state and as nobody where I work is allowed to have time off in December, I’ve had to hire a carer for 2 days post school break up. It would have been 3, except I juggled things around to work on Saturday to reduce the cost. The carer is costing me $150 a day and that is at a discount. The two days will cost me $300 and had I have had the fourth $450. Tony Abbott is apparently proposing a different kind of care systems, like more in home approved care etc. This only makes sense to me, as the rising cost of living is forcing people to work crazy hours and some weekends, not to mention those of us who chose to do it on our own. Normally speaking my grandma comes over to help during this gap in holiday programs staring up, but she has lupus and can’t make the journey from Tassie due to declining health. My step dad also has cancer, so mum coming over was also out of the question, as he will spend Christmas in hospital having an operation and recovery time. It’s such a special time of year and with a little forward planning it can minimise the stress. I marvel at the crabbiness of some people at this time of year and they blame it on the Christmas period and the “stress” of it as a cop out. News flash – this is exactly the time of year when we should wake up and count our blessings and be grateful for each and every day. I hate hearing people whine about this time of year.

  • I agree to an extent. But Christmas is also a very sad, depressing tine for some.people. The ones with no family, no money, lots of debt. I get a tad depressed at Xmas as its not what it used to be and I guess this makes me a tad crabby. I do count my blessings, but still get a little sad at this time

  • Yeah I guess cancer is a legitimate reason to be grumpy, and ill health and watching your sister die and your nephew and your father and your brother recover from it. Pretty good excuse to be grumpy, yet these people chose to be the opposite of grumpy and savour the time they have. Being away from your loved ones is not easy. Merry Christmas to all :)

    • Thoughtful and kind words HEIDIHOPEFULLY!

      • Oops! glasses now on! Should read HOPEFULLYHEIDI! Sorry; Merry Christmas to you! :)

  • Some people have a legitimate reason to be grumpy. Give them a break, and just choose not to be with them if it bugs you.
