Hello!

Australia Day is my Mum’s birthday. We’ve always celebrated with family, often a BBQ, and always cake!

Sadly Mum’s 50th will always be remembered as the day I woke in the early hours of the morning to our house on fire, The day I lost my friend and flatmate, my partner’s brother. While I had come to terms with this over the last 20 years, it was always ‘there’ in the back of my mind, on Australia Day (and many other times throughout the years).

Sadly (again) 2 years ago, on Australia Day, and Mum’s 70th, I lost another good friend. A good man in the prime of his life, not yet 40, with a family who love him and miss him so very much it still breaks my heart daily.

This year I’m hoping for a happy day with family, surrounded by loved ones making good, happy memories with my children.

For all those celebrating, I hope you have a lovely day. For all those remembering loved ones lost, I hope your memories can make you smile.

  • Tragic and I feel your pain. I think life is all about letting go, absorbing, letting go and absorbing. Enjoy every breath with your loved ones.
