Hello!

I want to address a topic in my story about c- sections and how people view them and the woman who have had them. I always seem to come across things like too posh to push or did you really give birth though? And honestly it upsets me.
I am one of the many woman who had to have a c section , my son was breech and my hospital didn’t do natural breech births.
Now this is/ was my first baby so I just assumed that it would be natural and a c section never even crossed my mind I just assumed it was for emegancies, so when I found out I had to have one I was quite devastated that I wouldn’t be able to go in to labour and have that experience and I was scared , very scared in fact of having a major surgery.
After my whole experience I feel like I am a braver person for it bearing in mind I nearly had a panic attack while mid c section, but I feel proud.
So down to why I’m here, my husband would say to me just as a joke , but you didn’t really give birth did you , and it started to upset me , then I came across and article I can’t remember what it was called it was just on Facebook but in it was a woman condeming other woman for having c sections saying they didn’t actually give birth they where lazy and too posh to push and what would they know about the pain of childbirth.
So if you haven’t had ac section or don’t know anyone who has this is where you learn a little something, yes you don’t have the initial birthing pains while pushing out the baby but once the baby is out and your feeling in your legs have come back you have to sit up wich is excruciating then you have to try and stand wich is very difficult and you have to try and change you baby’s nappy and feed them but you can’t walk or bend or sit without being in extreme pain, you can’t sit in a car , lie down, stand still with out pain , pretty much you can’t do anything for the first two weeks but then for the first 6 weeks you can’t lift anything heavier than your baby.
So did I really give birth when I was cut open and had my son pulled from my stomach, did I really give birth when I couldn’t stand to change my baby’s first nappy or sit properly to give my baby his first feed, and did I really not give birth when I was crying with frustration to not be able to bend an pick my newborn son up properly.
You tell me.

  • that is rubbish talk! you are a mum, you gave birth to your child, it doesn’t matter how they came to the world, they are here!

  • Giving birth has the same outcome (a beautiful baby) no matter how you get to the end product. If anything, I think you’ve dogs it tougher than those that have natural births. It takes a long time to recover from a c section

  • My first pregnancy I was in labour for 24 hours, and then wound up with an emergency C-Section.
My second pregnancy I was booked in for a C-Section due to complications at 38 weeks.
I say, to hell with anyone who even implies I didn’t give birth! I did! 2 babies came out safely and healthy. I gave birth!

  • Congratulations on bub. Push negativity away. I had my miracle by an emergency classical c section at 27 weeks. No labour. If i didnt we both may not have made it. Its not quite what we had in mine but never the less i gave birth and people who think c sections are the easy way out clearly dont know what they are talking about

  • Don’t listen to uncharitable comments, those people shouldn’t be commenting about c sections unless they are perfect, and there is no such thing as a perfect mother- we all do mothering our own way.

  • Push negative comments away indeed. You gave birth like all the other mums. Congratulations on your baby! :-)

  • Don’t worry – the main thing is for a baby to arrive safe and sound into this world. Push negative comments to the side if they are of no value. One persons comments are not worthy of feeling bad!

  • You still gave birth to your baby. Your baby arrived safe and sound and that’s all that matters in my opinion

  • My first was emergency c section and my second almost fell out on the side of the road on the way to hospital so I can tell you from experience that vaginal delivery is better in all ways. As women we all need to have the strength to ignore what other people think about us and do what is natural. After birth there is something so much better to worry about, the health of you beautiful baby that you bought into this word so enjoy it.

  • Although I worry a little about unnecessary medical intervention, I don’t see this as a reflection on the patient / mother or their experience – only the doctors.
