Hello!

Car seat safety has always been a passion of mine. In the name of safety my short 8 year old does not travel in anything less than a booster seat (he is in a harness when I can have him in one as he is under the line in a maxi rider). A parent questioned why I send a booster with him to school when they are picking him up for me. Yet if he sat in the chair without it he would get his head sliced in half. But there are some days when the stress is worse than ever because of my daughters with special needs.

Not only do I need to explain to curious people why my six year old daughter is still in a harness (I often get asked if she would be happier in a booster seat), but I have now come across a whole new ball game that I never thought I would. Fighting to keep my children in car seats as apposed to having them travel in their wheelchairs.

I have nothing against parents that decide to do this when they have children in wheelchairs. They have their reasons. But I did heaps of research into this and almost everywhere it states that while children can, they should travel in a car seat rather than within a wheelchair. So I feel like I am banging my head against the brick wall when I have to explain to people for the millionth time (often the same people over and over again) that it is safer this way. And safety is everything to me.

Having special needs children will never be a walk in the park, but I constantly feel like people expect me to justify my every decision to them because they do not understand it :(
