Hello!

When I found out I was pregnant, no, wait…Before I even planned for pregnancy, I have decided that I will breastfeed all my kids. I want to give them the best of everything. Now when little Phoebe was born, I started breastfed her (still going). Obviously, one will know you will be sleep deprived, you cannot go anywhere without taking your baby with you etc…That for me was ok. However, my baby’s weight has been an issue to the rest of my family member. She is very tiny and close to being underweight. And, oh did I mention she cries day and night?

Now I have a little nephew who was born a few months earlier than Phoebe. He is the quietest little thing. Ummm actually not quite little. he is 11kg and 9 months. He drinks formula and eats like an adult. At least the portion is like an adult. He rarely cries. Even during vaccination, he just let out a squeak.

My sister in law is anti-breastfeeding. She said the reason my little one cries so much and is so tiny is due to me breastfeeding. I resulted in a clingy and never satisfied baby. Of course I don’t believe her but this kinda throw my confidence abit. I have commited to give my baby the best and I would appreciate support…Not to shatter my confidence in breastfeeding.

  • To each their own when it comes to breastfeeding. You do what is right for you and your baby and forget others comments.

  • i hope when you read this, you are still breastfeeding. i for one believe in bf. i even went to the extend of not consuming food that my LO is allergic to, just so i can continue bf. however, when LO turned 1, allergy to soy was confirmed too. that was when i stopped bf so that enough nutrients can be received from prescribed milk.
The paediatrician was not worried even though LO’s weight is not increasing according to the weight-to-age chart. in fact, to me, LO’s weight dropped a lot, many percentiles down. reassurance from the paediatrician helped me a lot. and i like what she said ‘you cant expect a baby at 95th percentile when the parents were at 25th percentile’ :)
Check this out if you want some peace of mind/information/motivation.

  • My middle child wasn’t getting enough milk, I had it but not enough for my greedy guts so at 7 months I switched to bottle, gradually & he put on even more weight, in fact got quite big, he is slim adult now. Go with what feels right for you & bubs & you & really you alone will know. Do NOT feel guilty or have anyone make you. Be proud, confident & happy with what ever decision you make :)
