Hi I’m a 26 year old mum of 5. 3 at home and 3 not. Rory 5 has autisim and at times I find him very hard to deal with.he does theropy groups and will be in preschool next year.he becomes violent, yells a lot and I’m finding that he other 2 children Declan and Olivia are copying his autistic behaviours.my daughter is converting back to baby talk, babbling etc.rory would prefer to play buy himself and will not engage in social play at school.im hoping that maybe there may be someone on here with some advice that I can give a shot. Thanks guys

  • Lots of good advice given, hope it’s helped.

  • Perhaps there’s more help out there for you and your son. Talk to you GP and find out if there are better therapy groups in your area. You may not have to wait for pre-school and he may need more help before then. All the best.

  • I have an autistic child. I would suggest calling Aspect (Autism Australia) and ask them for a list of what services are in your area. They will be covered by Fachsia funding. Speak to your paediatrician or psychologist about the impact on the other children. It can be very difficult.

  • Wow sounds like your having a very difficult time.
I cant offer much in the way of advice however I can totally see where you are coming from, I have a son (6) who has ADHD and ODD, and that is very hard, he also becomes very violent and flies of the handle very easily, My 5 year old son who is having processing/speech difficulties is now also coping this behaviour.
Keep your chin up, its hard and will sometimes make you feel horrible but remember your doing the best you can with what you have and know.
    Good luck with everything =)

  • Sounds as though you may need help hun. I suggest visiting your GP & discussing the issues. There is counselling too, there’s nothing wrong with asking for help, I’ve had to ask before :)
