Hello!

I’ve been suffering depression for many years, ever since I had my kids. I’ve been on medication for most of that time but recently changed over to a new type to see if they will provide a better effect. In the last week since changing i’ve been so up and down I feel like im going insane. Its crazy that one little tablet can change things so much! Why is depression such a hush hush thing that no one talks about? I have always been open about being on meds and my struggle but never hear anyone else talk about it. Do people think they are crazy or unbalanced because they have depression? I wish more people would open up and seek help when needed and they felt safe to do so.

  • One of our good friends suffers from depression, he has put it out there on facebook and talks quite honestly about it which seems to be working for him. A lot of people suffer from it and are ashamed, the more people talk about it the better

  • My girlfriend suffers from bipolar and doesn’t tell many people because she says she feels ashamed.

  • It’s awful that people either don’t want to know, or think that they can’t help. There is definitely a stigma attached to taking meds. A friend of mine says that if your leg was broken, that you would use crutches until your leg was better, so why should medication be any different?

  • I fully understand, the kids cop it, hubby cops it and it feels like it never ends. Also Medicare only give you 10 assisted appointments a year. And it take more than that with the psycologist. At $140 per session it is not easy. But I feel most people feel like that you can’t see it so nothing is wrong.

  • I think the reason why many people dont tell others they have depression is of the stigma attached to it. I know when I told some mums from my mothers group they stopped inviting me to get togethers and I never got emails of catchups. When I would sms them about catching up they never responded. It was only years ago that I saw one of the mums and she suffered depression. She told me the mums couldnt deal with my depression as they were having a good time with their babies and didnt want to know about it. This shut me down and I dont divulge this in fear of being treated the same again. i think because it is a mental illness people think you are crazy and who wants to be thought of as that
