Hello!

It is not easy to get kids to eat their dinner. My son is nearly 3yo. He is used to refuse dinner and sometimes threw food and you know it the drama began with tantrum and screaming. My husband and I both working full time, so Mon-Fri we usually have dinner at home as I have to do cooking for tomorrow dinner every night. We go out occasional at night for dinner for some friend invite or wedding, recently on Sunday night for friend’s daughter 1 month party. But on Saturday will always go out to restaurant for lunch.

My son is actually very excited on Saturday. When we ask whats the plan for Saturday. He always said “Eating outside”. He is looking forward to it. My son and I are vegetarian. I always research the place before we eat there if they can cater vegetarian with some restriction as we don’t eat onion, garlic etc as well.

We have some limited places that we can go. My husband is not vegetarian so he can eat everything.

I think we all mum know what foods our kid likes to eat or not. So find some places that have our kid’s favorite foods. I know my son loves noodles, pizza, spring roll, sea weed, vegetarian yum cha etc. So we will go to places where he can eat his favo foods where he will sit down and eat his food.

There was time when I would like to try some new place, so we go to sushi train. We find out that he didn’t like sushi. He didn’t eat much there but we discover that he actually loves the sea weed. But I try to keep him still sitting down for sometime by offering him his favo jelly stick after lunch so my husband and/or I can finish eating.

At dinner time at home, we are sitting down together to have dinner. We can’t force our kid to eat sometimes. But I find way to get my son eat little bit more. When my son sometimes doesnt like the food, I try to encorauge him to eat little bit more by counting how many spoons to finish before he can get some desert “5 more spoons then you can have jelly stick (or yogurt, cheese, rice cracker, grapes, mandarin etc). He will open his mouth and eat 5 more spoons.

Kids are very interesting. We just have to be smart and try find ways around in the things we want them to do.

  • That is so very true. They’re all different, total individuals, but there’s usually a way to work around most problems. You seem to have your boy sussed out, well done there
