I’m a big believer in everyone is different and this couldn’t be more true when it comes to children. I recall in my mothers group one mum comparing her but to the others. She would often comment that she wished her son could do what someone else was doing or do this and do that. It really disappointed me as I felt that this poor child would forever grow up having his mother always want more from him. I say let children develop at their own pace and be happy and grateful for the gist you have.

  • We do worry as mums that our child might not be developing correctly but then we realise that correct is different for every child. They all develop at their own pace and they are all unique and beautiful in their own way!

    • They are unique and special and who cares about what anyone else might say.

  • I think first time Mums tend to compare more – they’re often more worried!

  • This is very true. In our culture it is quite common for kids to be compared with , who is smarter etc. Very silly and quite harming as it can lead to a child to develop low confidence only to find out there was nothing to complain about in the first place. We were always criticised as children and we all hated it . So best let them be their own little selves.

  • I don’t think society helps. Especially when you have somemumsbragging what their children have done. As well as check boxes to tick at the maternal health nurse

  • It can be tough at times, and there is a colossal amount of pressure on mums these days. I am sure she truly loves and appreciates her child.

  • Some children reach their developmental milestones quicker than others and some parents do want their children to reach their milestones at the same time as other children. Parents get excited about these milestones and maybe she is just keen to see them met. My children have always done everything early and a friend laments this and wishes hers would too, but she loves them dearly and it just super keen!
