Hello!

The average household discards a third of all their food groceries. What a waste. No doubt food is dropped onto the floor by baby. No one wants to finish the leftovers. Something is going mouldy at the back of the fridge. That packet in the pantry is out if date.

My husband is the complete opposite of this. He will eat food from the floor (only in our dining room), he will eat everyone’s leftovers. He will eat out of date, and mouldy, cold, congealed food so as not to waste it.
In our 11 years of acquaintance, I can count on two hands the number of times he has told me to throw food out.

I think that charities would reject some of the foods that he eats!

  • I hate throwing food out as it is a waste of money and do my best not to over buy what we don’t need!

  • We try so hard not to waste food! We have chickens that a fair bit of our scraps go to, and a worm farm. The dog gets the bones when I carve chicken carcasses and the odd plateful when my kids don’t eat.. Our poor compost gets a little neglected but the chickens love it and we use their poo on the garden. If I make extra batches, I freeze them for a night when we are home late, or when I don’t feel like cooking! I really dislike waste of any sort!

  • Yep another household here that does not like waste! We cook the amount that we need for dinner or a bigger quantity if we want to have it for lunch etc the next day. If we do happen to have vege or fruit that slips past our notice into the mouldy/rotten stage we have our own compost system so it’s not wasted in the sense that it goes back into our garden to help our growing. Packaged foods etc are not something we purchase a lot of so never have to worry about waste there.

  • My dad is the same.. He doesn’t throw away food.
My kids would waste so much, they are such fussy eaters, it drives me insane. So now, I make the same amount of food, serve their meals smaller and take the last serve of dinner and freeze it for my dad. He loves having full home cooked meals and I love the no wastage!

  • Ha! Ha! That’s funny! I hate throwing away food too. I cook what I know we are going to eat. If there are leftovers, we eat them the day after.

  • Is your hubby the Iron man in disguise?
The food wastage here is too much sadly.

  • We try not to waste food, I still use foods that look and smell fine even if they are out of the best before date (these dates are a guideline only) but I will never use food that is past its use by date (those are hard and fast and need to be adhered to!)

  • I’m more careful these days with buying unnecessary food & left overs are generally frozen or we plan to eat it the next day.

  • We try not waste food but since we got two little one we do end up leftover from their food which then goes to the bin.

  • I wonder if there is somewhere you can take food to which is past it’s sell by date?

  • I imagine you husband must have a cast iron stomach lol.
I freeze what I can but if miss toddler drops food on the floor it goes in the bin.
Very rare for us to find anything moldy but that too would go in the bin
