Hello!

Whilst picking a fresh bunch of herbs (Parsley, Rosemary & Coriander) from my backyard vegetable garden with my youngest boy (5) I realised just how fortunate we are. Reaping what you sow has taken a whole new meaning for me, I have a Fig tree which is loaded with fruit, 2 luscious green Lemon tree’s, an Apricot tree full of fruit, 4 Grape vines covered in fruit, A plum tree, a Pink Lady Apple tree, a Tomato plant laden with tomatoes waiting to ripen, 7 Capsicum plants, Pumpkin, Potatoes and delicious Thai Chilling plant. Then there’s the herbs that are blossoming like crazy with leafy foliage ready to eat! With carrots, cauliflower, reddish yet to mature as they are just seedlings. Oh and did I mention the juicy orange tree full of fruit just of being ripe and the chickens which lay beautiful fresh free range eggs each and every morning! I am blessed to be able to grow and produce fresh delicious fruit, vegetables and herbs for my family and friends as you absolutely can’t beat fresh produce.

It has occurred to me however that not everyone is that lucky, there’s way to many kids going to school with no breakfast or lunch and families struggling to put food on the table let alone pick at will fresh delicious fruit! Seeing as I have more than I and my entire network of family and friends could ever want, need or eat, I’ve decided to donate the excess to the school breakfast program, and also donating to my local charities and crisis centre in the hope that it will put a smile on a face, food in a hungry stomach . I guess its my way of paying it forward giving back to society as there was a time when I was that hungry person and if it wasn’t for the generosity of others who knows where I would of ended up.

  • You are terribly lucky, I’m jealous! Growing up, dad planted every fruit tree imaginable, plus grapevines and an almond tree. We also had a strawberry patch and a big veggie garden. We had chooks for eggs and cows for milk. I miss having it all on hand. I’m trying to emulate it, but it’s hard work!

  • What wonderful values you are giving to your children, its such a fantastic thing to learn first hand. You are very kind and generous giving away your excess to people who really need it what a lovely gesture. You should be very proud of the values you are teaching your children.
