Hello!

I have learnt recently that I really do not have a lot of close girlfriends the one you can call on when you really need them. I was asked to organise a ladies lunch and when I look at my facebook page and thought about who to invite I only came up with one or 2 friends and really only one who I would drop everything to run too if she needed me but would she do the same for me I have no idea. Since becoming a mum I have noticed my friends have really just disappeared not sure if is is me not having time anymore or something else. Anyone else noticed this too.

  • My friends disappeared years ago…..actually, I don’t remember having best friends since primary school. I decided I could do without the trouble that came with having friends

  • yes people change and their priorities change too.

  • Yes and sadly the more kids you have the worse it gets. Its sad when you feel so alone and like youve got noone to call upon in a time of need :(

  • I think it depends on your town, when I was growing up in the city my mum rarely ever saw anyone who wasn’t family (with the size of my family though there’s practically no time in the day to see anyone else lol) but now I’m living in a small mining town and the community of friends (almost by necessity) is very close.

  • My situation is a little different. Four years ago my daughter became critically ill and we’ve been in and out of hospital with surgeries, chemo, transplants, in that time. One by one, the people I thought were my forever friends, have dropped off. These are people I have known for many many years. It is heartbreaking to know that when the shoe is on the other foot, there are only a small number we can really count on as true friends. I have, however, learnt that life is way too short to dwell on it, so I celebrate what we do have in our lives,

  • Yes definitely the same here. Some great comments from the mums though. My life has dramatically changed a couple of times in the last couple of years and the things I used to find enjoyable I would rather give a miss these days for a more quiet existence. Even amongst girlfriends sometimes it’s hard to find people with relatable experiences, but on this site I love how forthright people are, and how you can always find somebody going through the same things as you. Hurray for MoM! :)

  • Also; maybe have a catch up get together to rekindle some of those friendships.

  • Friendships sometimes change as family and other priorities take focus; some can be maintained; others let go of and new ones made. Two good friends to call on is a good thing! Cherish and nurture those friendships. :)

  • I have never really been one for close friendships, I am often reminded of this every time my birthday roles around and the hubby asks who I want to invite. I’ve never been bothered by it as I’m naturally a bit of a antisocial. However since having my little one I find it is nice to try and find play groups where the babies can play together and the mums can have their ‘is that normal?’ chat.

  • Yes – but it is possible to revive friendships with a bit of effort.

    • Only if they want to be revived….takes 2 to make that work. “Friendship are a 2way road not a 1 way street”
