Hello!

I am in the process of planting a veggie garden. The garden bed is dug over, mulched, composted, fertilised, weeded and mounded. I have my punnets of veggie seedlings ready to go. But I’m worried avpbout the pests. We have a big fence around the garden to keep out the wallabies, kangaroos and (hopefully) possums. I would like some natural, tried and tested pest repellents for snails, slugs, cabbage moths etc. I’ve seen a few suggestions on here, but am curious as to whether someone has actually used them and if they really work. For example, coffee grounds for snails and slugs, containers of beer for the same pests. A spray consisting of chillies, garlic, dish detergent and a few other things to spray on the plants for flying pests. Has anyone used these? Can you let me know if they worked or not?

  • I have tried and still using some natural methods. Grow onions, marigolds and garlic and spread Crushed up egg shells around seedlings. 8 have bantums too. They only eat the bugs not 5he plants like chooks do

  • Putting rock salt at the base of plants that snails love ;-) generally functions! Salt is actually good against ants too.

  • I have heard egg shells to keep away the snails and slugs, and tea leaves around the edge to keep ants away. I’m very interested in other ideas too

  • Eggs shells work well on our garden.

    • I go natural as I do not use chemicals on the garden.
