Hello!

I took my daughter for her first experience in a swimming pool today. She was born and raised in Scotland so we were never able to do much in the way of swimming for her, other than the odd paddle pool, before we made our way back to Australia. She’s two now so I figured it was time to get moving on the swimming lessons front. Problem was, I am a very large lady and I hate my pockmarked legs and wobbly fatty tummy. I am OK about my arms and my boobs, so they tend to be on show and everything else is tucked away.

Problem is that at the pool, it all tends to be on display and wearing a full length skirt kinda seems to draw more attention..

So the day came and I decided to go really early in the morning. I wanted to go the the pool a couple of times before lessons to get her and me used to the area. I also suffer from anxiety and find that if I take a moment to get used to a place it helps me to feel more confident.

We turned up and I was freaking out walking out with her in my arms, expecting every single hot lifeguard and skinny perky trainers were judging the hell out of me. I felt awful and just wanted to get into the water and hide.. but was freaking out as I couldn’t because my daughter wanted the paddle pool kiddy area!

I had to walk around with her, body on show.. and you know what? it took all of five minutes before I forgot about my body and just had a blast watching her and taking care of her as she discovered a new world.

In the end, there was also a ton of other mums who were “pre baby body” turning up in their bathers and they didn’t care either. Made me feel heaps better.
