Hello!

Just did my weekly big shop today – came home with 10 bags and a HUGE hole in my pocket from how expensive it was!! I am astonished that even though i did not purchase any cleaning products or even nappies, i ended up spending well over $350! As i put the shopping away, i wondered where all the money had gone and why it cost so much. It is getting so expensive to feed a family (and i can imagine people with large families would really struggle). I want to cook and promote healthy eating in my household – it almost seems unfair that the price of healthy food is so expensive. And they wonder why obesity rates are getting higher? People cannot afford to buy fresh fruit and veggies, let alone the other daily necessities??? Feeling a bit overwhelmed by the whole experience. :-(

  • I agree it is expensive to buy your weekly shop especially when you have run out of everything!

  • markets and farmers markets are the best – I also grow herbs and vege and also really try to shop at local butcher etc to save supermarket impulse buys. I get cross too at the prices

  • I make most of our biscuits, cakes and snacks. Much cheaper than convenience stuff.

  • I agree. Prices go up every shop it seems. I’m a bit like Aussiemum. I have swapped to Aldi for certain products that I have found to be exactly the same quality, but cost much less in Aldi, rice, carrots, pasta, eggs, cheese just to name a few. I also wait for specials and then buy items I need. I’ve even trained the kids, they now ask, “Mum can you buy….when its on special”. Its the only way to try stay ahead of the supermarket game.

  • Meal planning has SAVED MY MARRIAGE. We swapped over to Aldi for as much as we could and planned our meals around their weekly specials. We buy our meat in bulk and freeze it as well as making massive batches of cheaply made meals and snacks to freeze. We never buy premade snacks anymore either and that has saved us literally thousands of dollars. It takes a lot of planning, but we have slashed our weekly bills in half.

  • Well… try having this experience every other day… I come from a family of 7 and we spends 200 dollars every couple days just on food.
