Hello!

Being flat out broke is normal for us. Since going with My Budget the bills are paid, but we only have a really small living allowance each week until more debt is paid off.

Normally I don’t mind and can handle it, but these last few weeks have been a nightmare.

Trying to find money for Christmas presents – even just for the extra food for end of year bring a plate functions has been difficult.

What is really depressing though is my nearly 3 year old has learnt the phrase – Buy for me?

Now she usually promptly forgets what it was she wanted, but she has seen a few things repeatedly advertised lately, and it has reinforced her desire to own them.

Yesterday I was trying to work out how to buy nappies and bread and milk when I only had enough money for milk, when she started begging for a particular toy.

I had to say “no”, and she looked at me with such a sad little look of disappointment, my heart broke.

I promptly burst into tears. At which point she climbed onto my lap, patted my cheek and said “Don’t cry Mummy. Buy for me make you happy!”

Gotta love the logic!

  • That is so sad and adorable at the same time, you have more wealth than you realise.

  • It’s hard when money is tight, and kiddies often don’t understand why they can’t have something they want “because we can’t afford it”. At least you’ve taken steps to pay off your debts, and while it will be difficult for a while, once you’re debt-free, you’ll feel like the weight of the world is off your shoulders. You’ve haven’t stuck your head in the sand, and ignored the debts & continued to book stuff on credit cards, and for that you should be really proud of yourself. Hope it works out for you.

  • We went through a terrible stage like this. I felt like I was on a perpetual economic diet and wanted to just binge. I hope things improve for you very soon.
