Hello!

I am a mother of three boys and when they were all in their younger years at primary school they would always seem to get head lice. They had short haircuts but they still managed to get head lice. I was sick of buying commercial products to combat the lice and they didn’t always work for us. I started using the conditioner and comb method which entails putting conditioner through their hair ( I used the cheapest brand I could find) and with a nit comb carefully comb the conditioner through the hair to expel the lice and eggs in the hair. This process was repeated every second day until I found no lice or eggs for two weeks. I forgot to mention that I also put some tea tree oil in the conditioner mixture. Seek professional advice when treating your children but this is what works for me.

  • I totally endorse this method as well. Works a treat!

    • This method is also good on the ‘hip pocket’ compared to some other more expensive and smelly products.

  • My kids get them all the time as well they r a pain to deal with and I hate using the commercial stuff, it is expensive, stinks and I believe only makes the little blighters stronger and immune, I too use this method although time consuming, was very dissapointed recently when the principal at their school said it wasn’t helping and started sending home bottles of out dated treatment the chemists had donated to them which has to be left on the kids hair overnight, awful stuff did it once as I knew she would ask the kids then went back to my method :P I know it works as I was advised to do it by kindy staff when miss 12 was at kindy so has worked for me for 8 yrs, hate when people think they know better just because they r in a position of power lol

  • I will remember that tip just in case! My son had very fine hair so any creepy crawlies shouldn’t be too hard to spot!

  • Eucalyptus oil in conditioner works a treat and you can also put it in with water for your everyday lice control so they don’t want to jump in the hair. They are killed instantly and you only need a couple of drops.

  • I work in pharmacy and the cases I see would have you scratching. Plus poor parents at their wits ends. Over the years most of the top brands have gone to more natural ingredients.

  • I never have had that problem with my kids but I do know they are getting really bad now.
