Hello!

My daughter came home from Kindergarten scratching her head yesterday.

I put her in the bath and spent ages searching for evidence of lice. Just as I was going to give up and put myself at ease my convincing myself that I am being overly paranoid I found a nit. Just one single Adult nit.

(Just thinking about it is making me itchy! yuck!)

I pulled the nit out from her hair and showed her that this little bug is making her head itchy and will continue to do so if I do treat her hair. Luckily she was also grossed out by the nit that was wiggling on its back on the end of my finger.

We rushed to our local pharmacy, which is luckily for us 4 houses down. I bought 3 different brands of Headlice treatment. And I treated her hair, she sat still and calmly for me and was really good about it.

I called the Kindergarten to inform them that my daughter came home with headlice and has been treated but they need to put a letter out to parents to check their childs head. Obviously, it’s going to keep happening till the source of the headlice has been treated.

The worker on the other side of the phone was fine about it, told us as long as she is treated she can come back and she will get a note put out to parents by “tomorrow”, which is now today. Went in to drop my daughter off and there was no note. So I’ve informed the director of the kindergarten about it and she seems to be more on the ball to get to the source of it have parents check their children.

I hate headlice, I am so paranoid about it. I always go through my daughters head when I brush her hair and this time round I got onto it so quickly I was lucky to of only found 1 adult lice, which is the one I pulled out. But definitely going to treat her again, just incase.

Does anyone know of any sprays or ways to help to deter headlice?

  • Put some tea tree oil in your shampoo its suppose to deter them. I hate them also but what annoys me the most is the parents that don’t treat there childrens hair. grrr

    • I know! In my daughters class year it was always the same kids.

  • annoying and lots of hassle i know. I know people who had to shave the head of their kids due to headlice… upsetting yes but it was the fastest and most effecting way

    • The lice attach to the scalp and not the hair; they feed off the scalp. They are easier to see with a shaved head; but does not stop lice!
