Hello!

I am wanting to find a job, and felt like I have a good Resume and I have 2 years experience with reception work and also have completed my certificate in Business Admin, but it seems to not be enough to even get to the interview process. Where am I going wrong?

  • Oh yes, we all go through he same thing and disheartening . Make sure you are applying for the right jobs and make sure your last job is a good referee. The referees are very important so always have their full name and contact numbers that are reachable and can help vouch for you Good luck !

  • Oh my god, I’m hearing you! It was so much easier when I was young to get a job. I really don’t understand addressing the selection criteria bizzo, and I think that may be where I’m failing. Back to the drawing board

  • Might be time to see the professionals. Can be expensive but worth it.

  • Is there anyone you can take your resume to so they can check it for you?

  • There are so many people out there looking for work, most jobs advertised in the city have over 200 applications for a single position. Having a great resune isnt enough. You need a great xover letter answering all of the selection criteria. Good luck! Im not looking forward to having to do it all over again either :-(

  • A couple of years ago i was made redundant whilst on maternity leave (a whole other story) and i had to redo my resume. I was looking for part time work in reception although my entire working career I was in operational management. I hired a lady to redo my resume and answer a selection interview criteria for me. It cost me around$180 but it was what i needed to get my resume up to scratch and now i just add and tweak as needed.

  • Do you have a good strong cover letter? Google cover letters and you can get a really good idea of what emplyers are looking for. I would also try the temp agencies too, as that can lead to full time work.

  • It would be impossible for us to say. It maybe that there may have been someone who was just slightly better for each position that you’ve interviewed for. Is it possible to contact some of the people that you had an interview with and ask them for some pointers? When I was interviewing, I always thought the attitude of the person was much more important than their qualifications. I hope this helps.
