Hello!

My two kids are in grade 2 and grade 4. I find the younger child often seems to have the more homework. We have readers, spelling, high frequency words and work sheets. The grade fourer (is that a word?) just has a work sheet to complete by the end of the week. Maybe the workload for grade two seems bigger because I have to participate too!

  • Is your grade two child struggling generally in school? My boy is now in grade 4 but used to get heaps when he was struggling more in lower grades. He would have to read for at least 15 minutes every night plus do sight words and a work sheet. Made it extremely hard when both my husband and I work pretty much full time shifts. I remember speaking to the teacher and saying how hard it was for us to fit all that in and still get family time with him around working. She apologised as she didn’t realise we both worked full time and odd shifts so only time we had to do homework was Friday afternoons which is way too much for a Friday arvo. Speak to his teacher and let them know that’s it’s too much and your struggling to keep up around your already busy lifestyle. Realistically they should only get 1 worksheet a week and some reading material for them to look at. It helps if you let them wear what they want whilst doing homework too lol

    • That’s good advice to approach the teacher.
