Hello!

Last night I went to what they call a bra or lingerie party I guess. The party was done by the intimo brand. Before I proceed may I just start by saying I’m in no way affiliated with this company or are any of my friends consultants etc. I thought it was important to disclose that first. I was really sort of like “oh yeah this will just be like 90% of the other brands I’ve tried on.” Just as always the bra that I really liked was ill fitting, but the one that I had looked at as my second choice was fabulous and was the most comfortable bra I have ever tried on. At times we sacrifice so much I felt it was time I was at least entitled to 3 new bras as I tend to get right down on bras all of a sudden, as I buy a couple and then no more for a year or two. Might I just say as well that having a larger size it was amazing that the prices were only a bit above some of the bras in a place like bras and things. Most ladies with larger sizes I imagine would probably have been through the torment of taking home a target or Kmart bra after trying it on and thinking this will do and it’s a reasonable price (because most companies charge ridiculous prices for us bigger girls), and then a couple of weeks later you are unsatisfied with an ill fitting bra or something digs in etc or it simply doesn’t last. My whole life revolves around taking care of my son and his conditions and taking him to school and going to work and then coming home to cook and clean. I really feel no guilt for the first time in a while at purchasing what I did for myself, as I was really getting to the stage where I wasn’t living for myself to the extent I wasn’t even getting myself some of the basics and just scraping by- I even sewed up a couple of bras a couple of times. I’ve got benign cysts on my breasts that come and go and my breasts swell up and cause me pain. Nothing has been the same with them since I had my son and mastitis for which I was in hospital and had IV antibiotics and morphine and a temp of 40•c. I think I have damaged ducts that cause me pain some of the time and especially when I put on a couple of kilos only that is where the weight goes. I thought I deserved some new bras and a cardigan after the year I had last year that was very financial trying to say the least. I spent a significant amount of money but I don’t really care, as those bras felt like a cloud and were lovely.

  • That’s awesome that you got some that suited you. Definitely need to spend a bit to make yourself feel comfortable. We had an intimo party for my sister’s hens night – it was a lot of fun!

  • Mums always put themselves last, so good on you for getting a good bra (that you actually need, so it’s not a luxury)and good bras last a lot longer

  • good on you for putting your self first and getting somethings you wanted and are a pleasure to wear. There always comes a point when we need to just put us first

  • It’s sad that we Mums often feel guilty when we “put ourselves first” in some way, or we buy something as a “treat” for ourselves. It really shouldn’t be like that, as we are just as important as everyone else in the family. I’m glad that you treated yourself, and I hope that you are able to do it a little more often.

  • Common advice is to treat ourselves occasionally but the reality is often that we put others needs first when money is tight. So good on you for buying a much needed and useful item, whilst feeling like it is a luxury! Yeah, I too buy a couple of them when I find a comfortable style, which also means that they wear out at the same time. Maybe make a note of the style and decide to ‘treat’ yourself to another one in a couple of months time.
