Well we had a very bad week of school before the school holidays, my son is going into grade 6 and they always get to choose some friends that they would like to be with in the following year. So we find out his teacher whom im very happy with but my son was terribly upset because he got none of his friends in his class and to top that off they where all and I mean all of them where put in the same class. Then last day of school and my son went for some leadership postions but didn’t get a place which we both understand that not everyone can get a leadership spot but I must say I was so upset my son was crying in assembly because everyone of his friends got a position. I felt like he has been hard done by he is a good kid and I feel that this has been done on purpose but don’t understand why. My son has had counciling at school and outside of school because we are a single family is this why they did this? Very upset mum and I have already emailed the school to tell them what they have done to my child is very unfair of course I haven’t had a reply.

  • That is life. One day many years ago I was having a bit of a grizzle about something and my darling youngest son said to me in a nice way and quite matter of factly ” Mum build a bridge . I said what do you mean ?. he said build a bridge and get over it. I often think these are wise words to remember when things do not go according to plan.

  • Yes, it’s upsetting to see your child upset but, unfortunately, that’s life. In the long run your son will better for it as he will be learning to be resilient.

  • This is not fair, I feel very bad for the boy, things would change and he would come out with flying colors.Keep your fingers crossed.

  • I feel for you, one of the out comes about this is that your son knows his mum is in this corner and will stand up for him.

  • Reading this breaks my heart, I get where you are coming from. I have a daughter but when you hear kids wont play with her for whatever reason I question myself, have I done something wrong? I hope you hear back from the school and they give you a good reason for your son missing out.

  • I feel for you. I know what it’s like to be a single family and be the supporting and caring one and I’m the same, what hurts my son also hurts me. I’ve been in tears over things he’s been upset about.

  • poor kid. it is hard to watch your children get bypassed though. keep encouraging him and maybe do something special to show him that his effort mattered to you
