Hello!

I was 14 weeks pregnant, 1st time to the doctor, and he asked me to do a wee test, like always. while waiting for the results he did my blood pressure. my blood pressure up up, then the nurse came in with my wee test results. after viewing these the doctor asked me to go straight up to the emergency department at our local hospital. He wants them to sort my blood pressure out. ok i thought. no big deal. after spending 3 hours at the hospital i was sent home on blood pressure tablets. well little did i know that was the start of a very long and hard road. within 2 days i got a letter from a doctor in high risk. i looked at this letter as if to say what on earth is this about, but i went anyway. After having my blood pressure checked again, and another wee stick. i was taken into the doctor. To my utter shock, she announced i have sever pre-eclampsia, and at 15 weeks this was a very dangerous situation and it was likely they would have to deliver the baby before 20 weeks and the baby would die. Well this did not go down to well with me, i told the doctor watch me fight this, you do what you have to do and ill do what i have to do. So from that week on i went to high risk on mondays and anti natal on thursdays. i required 2 to 3 blood tests a week, and monthly ultrasounds. at each appointment i was hearing the same thing, you are so many day further, you are doing well, but we just have to wait and see. By 20 weeks gestation i was on injections, tablets, bed rest at certain times of the day, and it felt like my life was being lead by someone else. but then before we knew it, 24 weeks gestation and a smile from my doctor and1 sentence that would forever change our lives, your baby is now viable. to me she was always going to be no matter how hard i had to fight. The doctor said we should look at delivering soon before things spiraled out of control. No i want to wait, i can handle it i told her, so she kept me on 2 weekly appointments, continual blood tests and monitoring. 28 week, 30 weeks 31 weeks. Christmas and boxing day went well. i was very tired over these two days, and felt swollen and sore. just a part of pregnancy i thought. due to christmas holidays i couldnt see my anti natal doctor till friday. wow what a shock, she told me go and see the mac ward and wait for blood tests. sure i said, nothing new for me. nest thing i know i was being moved to birthing. wow why i asked. your blood pressure has peaked and your blood tests have come back not good. ok what does that mean, we need to delivery your baby or we could loose you both. ok lets do this i said. they worked for 5 hours on stabalising my blood pressure, i had so many drips, wee bag and goodess knows what else. Finally stable i was transfered to the mater mother. On saturday i delivered a beautiful little girl by c section weighing just 1.4kg. i was rushed to intensive care, where i stayed for 3 nights. finally when i got o go see my little angle i was so shocked by her tiny tiny size. i spent a further 3 days in hospital, and our little girl was in for 35 days all up. We are all home now. safe and sound. She is of corrected age and doing really well. My family finally show me photos of everything that happened that week and it is all a surprise to me as i really dont remember that much. All i can say now is i finally get to hold you in my arms and what a journey we have had.

  • Was never told I was high risk but from 16 weeks on was f/n until 22 weeks weekly and then stays in hospital for a few days until I was told your baby is old enough and 12/12 was a good date to remember. He was 35 weeks old and to me it meant I could get to spend some time with my other two children who hardly saw me for months. Glad yours turned out alright it is worry that you do not really need.
