Hello!

I am a nanny to 7 grandchildren and feel fully blessed to have every single one of them. They range in age from 23 months to 13 years of age.

They all live in different places, most live interstate from me, only have 3 granddaughters living close by. I am writing this with two of my granddaughters, Chloe – 3 yrs old and Skyla – 23 months old. They are adorable, loving their nanny, love my dog coco who is having sneaky bits of sandwiches, they don’t think I can see.

Briella is at school, she is almost 6 yrs old. Briella is a very smart cookie, she is so clever and doing really well at school. She spends a great deal of time here with her nanna and grumps, it is wonderful. We usually have sleepovers but grumps and I are taking over the spare room whilst we do up our room so we have really missed not having Bree for sleepovers.

I have two grandsons that are 3 and turning 3 this year, then I have a 9 year old granddaughter and a 13 year old grandson, all living far too far away.

Being a grandmother is a blessing. I feel totally blessed having all 7 of our grandchildren, I wish I did see them all more often, but unfortunately I can’t.

Some think that being a grandparent is just a matter of fact, but it isn’t, to be a grandparent, I feel, is such an honour. A blessing. The same as being a parent. I love all my children and grandchildren. I have always wanted to be the type of nanna where the kids can come to me anytime if they feel they need me. They can come for holidays to stay on the farm with us. This is my dream. When they are old enough to travel on their own will be absolutely wonderful, I can then spend more time getting to know them all properly, I can’t wait for that day.

I see children who are mistreated, grandparents standing back watching it all happen – I couldn’t do that. I even wish I could take those children away, but I am not allowed to, so unfortunately I am going to have to report the parents, they prefer to drink beer and take drugs than feed their children. It is so sad.

I suffer severe chronic pain so I cannot foster any children, otherwise my home would be full of children that need loving. I see it time and time again, the poor children suffering. It isn’t fair.

Well I hope I am a good nanna. I love my grandchildren so much, I would do anything for them, absolutely anything. There is nothing better than grandchildren ringing to sing happy birthday or wanting to talk to me on the phone.

My grandchildren are my life, as well as my children of course and my wonderful husband “Grumps”.

Life is wonderful with the little pittar patter of little feet sneaking into my bedroom for snuggles in the mornings after a sleepover.

I had one of my granddaughters, Briella 5, stay for awhile after school yesterday. I was unwell and didn’t expect her to be coming and I had trouble keeping my eyes open.

I was sitting in my chair, with briella sitting in grumps’ chair finishing off her lunch – she said, “nanny, I have to eat all my food so mummy doesn’t get upset”. I said, “well that’s good. I am glad you are finishing your lunch, but you should have it at school not here”. She came back with “Well, I would have but I just didn’t have time. There is just not enough time to eat and play”. It was hard to come back with anything.

Briella is a bright little cookie, she came over to me after finishing her lunch. Climbed up on my lap and gave me the biggest cuddle. She asked why I was closing my eyes all the time, I said I was tired, well, you should have got some good sleep. Cuddled up and snuggled with me for ages. It was very lovely having her in my arms, one of my beautiful girls.

When my son and his partner and the other two girls arrived to pick briella up, I went outside to see them. I snuck up to the car, tapped on the window next to the youngest granddaughter ‘skyla’ and she turned around – realised it was me and I got the biggest grin.

It makes my heart fill up will love and joy every time I spend time with any of my grandchildren. Even when i talk to them on the phone or skype. It is such an amazing feeling. I honestly love it, love being a nanny.
