I agree.

Whilst I can some what understand why parents of sick children still send their kids to daycare/school. I am not in favour of this, unless it purely is just a sniffle and a little cough.

I do not take my child that is starting to become sick, sick or getting better from being sick to childcare, for two reasons, firstly their health … obviously if they’re starting to become unwell, their immune is low and likely to pick up more “bugs” if out at childcare – which can then make their illness worsen; and two, for the other children in the room (it’s unfair to send a sick child to care/school – as it spreads around and makes other children sick).

I know it is hard for some families, as paying for a day of care and not sending their child means a day of work, and that means a day less of pay, but the way I see it, a couple day off childcare to make sure child is better, means less time off work later if the childs condition gets worse.

(same applies to adults in work places, it’s better to stay home a day or two, to rest and get better, than to go to work, spread your germs (make others annoyed that you’re even there or making others sick) and then having to take off more days off work.

Lets hope that this winter, more families are staying home when sick to ensure they don’t spread thier germs around. Fingers crossed for a good cold/flu-free year =)

  • I agree to your response 100%!! Besides, what kid would want to be running around whilst they are sick ?! Honestly… They should be resting

  • I totally agree with you.

  • I agree totally! If a child including your own is sick they should not be forced to go to kinder/ preschool!

  • Yep, agree somewhat. But it’s hard for working families to take time off work to care for a sick child. Believe it or not, some work places are not sympathetic to working parents with sick kids and wouldn’t hesitate to sack them there’s plenty more to take their place

  • i couldn’t agree more, I have lost count of the times I’ve heard someone say ” my child had a slight temp or vomited, so i dosed them up with panadol” and sent them to school or childcare, makes me cross, I did Snap at a mum once when she said it ( we were studying at college hardly worth the risk to other kids and her poor baby who was only 13 months at the time would of just wanted her mumma) she never really spoke to me after that.

  • I don’t even go to work sick, let alone sending my little one anywhere sick. It’s so bad, think about the kids with low immune systems !

  • I was confronted by a sick checkout operator, I said you should be at home… (So she doesn’t infect everyone).. she said ‘oh that’s so sweet but I’ll be ok’ …..ugh!!!

  • Great point but very few parents seem to follow the “keep home if sick” rule. I’m lucky I work part time and have grant parental support when my little ones get sick.

  • Its not just keeping them out of care, its also staying home. You will still infect others while grocery shopping etc.
