Hello!

So I was at playgroup the other day with my 3 year old. As I walked past I heard some of the other mums talking about nits. One was saying that her daughter had them & she took her to the doctor & he confirmed that they were nits. I really felt like saying something to her about not bringing your kids to playgroup when they have nits but I didn’t. I brought my daughter home & washed & treated her hair & the house. Not impressed.

  • Wow some of you people are really effing rude. I am just posting a story, I didn’t publish it to be hit with a series of stupid & unnecessary comments. Over the top? If you’ve got nothing nice to write, don’t write anything at all. The whole family got them in the end & I was not happy. You can’t tell me that you’d be over the moon about it.

  • I’m amazed she went to the doctors to get it confirmed.

  • great advice from moms as usual.. my tip if you want to try and prevent head lice, first do not have head to head or hair to hair contact with a child with head lice. second, spray your child’s hair with a solution of tea tree oil or eucalyptus oil and water.. also hair spray applied after the oil water has dried is useful, also hair gel as the head lice find it hard to get a grip on the hair. If you have a daughter with long hair make sure you never leave it out as it should be tied back or braided.
    Best of luck.

  • Unless you know whether the mother had already treated her kids for the nits, I think you’re panicking a bit. Even the cleanest families and households can get nits. You treat them and get on with life.

    • Yep i always got told that nits prefer to live in clean hair and its more common than people actually think.

  • Trust me you will be doing this every few weeks.. You can have nits clean their hair and be able to take them out afterwards,. You don’t have to stay confined to a house. The solutions now days are really good. Kids get nits from school. Preschool, dancing etc.. It can come fro anywhere..don’t judge until you’ve had your kid come home with them, no matter how clean you think they are.

  • Well, but maybe she’d already treated her kids, in which case there’s no reason she shouldn’t have brought them.

  • Totally not impressed, is there a leader for the play group to send a message out for the next time?

  • As I’m not sure of the context in which you are referring “had nits” or “has nits” Basically if head lice are treated you are fine to be out & about the next day. Sorry if this is incorrect & this women has literally come from GP to playgroup well then that’s wrong. Most people do treat immediately. I think your reaction is a bit OTT & did you really need to de-louse your child & the house???

    • Amazing how the treatments are so fast these days!

  • I think nits is something your going to have to get used to.
Once your child goes to school they will more than likely get them.
I do think that the mother should of told everyone within the play group that her child had nits and then i guess its your decision if you leave or stay but keep your child away.

  • Some people really have no idea. Maybe say something next time?
