Hello!

As a Mum of two I have certainly learnt many things about myself and raising children then I thought I would. Without a doubt, new Mum’s should be told that yes, you’ll make mistakes and they’ll be times particularly after continuous sleepless nights that you’ll break out into tears and have the odd tantrum, but we should be particularly in the media that you’ll get through it and there is support teams out there.

I think we should also be told fair more about the things that can happen or go wrong, for example, my now 3.5year daughter was born with hip dysplasia – I didn’t know a thing about it at the time. I having her in a harness was extremely hard. Thankfully she’s now fine and learning ballet.

Perhaps amongst others, we should be told what can go wrong during birthing. I.e. the doctors / nurses made a mistake in not finding out my daughter had turned well before going to hospital, so not only did I proceed to go into labour and when they realised I was 8 centimetres dilated but rushed in for an emergency caesar. I didn’t receive the support from the hospital at the time and spent 8 weeks on the verge of post natal depression. Thankfully my hubby and family were incredibly supportive.

We mostly certainly aren’t perfect as mothers / parents, but we do try our hardest – perhaps this should be the overall message!

  • You are so right, there doesn’t seem to be enough information about all the things that don’t go to plan. I was completely clueless with my first born and also found myself going through what I’m sure what post natal depression, I loved my baby but adjusting to everything was so hard especially the sleep! I couldn’t imagine how much more you had on your plate with your delivery and daughters diagnosis and I’m so glad for you that she progressed just goes to show what a mother’s love can do. You’re doing a great job :)

  • I didn’t have a very nice experience in the hospital I had nurses that wouldn’t help me beside my midwife helped with my labour she finished her shift but stayed to keep an eye on me. I didn’t have family around beside my daughters father who they had sent home the night before my waters broke. As we live an hour away from the hospital. I was in and out of hospital for two weeks with bad low blood pressure and dehydration. That was learning curve. I have now moved closer to family
