Hello!

When i was 9 year old, i was looking after my little brother at home when my mum took my sister to the hairdresser, 2 robbers knocked on my door, when i asked who is it they told me they have to leave some work for my step father and i opened the door not knowing what is expecting me, 2 robbers with big guns just came into my house and while one is pointing the gun at me and my brother the other one is taking all our staff (tv, video, jewelery and etc..)

I was trying to keep calm for my brother but suddenly he started to cry and the robber told me to shut him up or he will shoot him, i freaked out and told him to please don’t do anything as he’s only 2, then he took me instead and you can only imagine what happened. Bad experience.. Today i try and teach my kids to never open the door to strangers and i will never leave them alone at home..

  • I hope when this was reported to the Police your Mother was reprimanded.
In SA it is ILLEGAL to leave a a baby or toddler in the care of another person uner a certain age. I’m sure it is at least high school age- I can’t remember what it is. You weren’t even near leaving primary school. That is child neglect to leave you home anyway, let alone with a youngert child.

  • That us such an incredible experience! My mind is in overload imagining what they did to you. Who would leave a 9yo home alone to care for a 2yo! And to not even leave strict instructions of “Do not open the door to ANYONE!” I feel very sad fir you

  • This is absolutely awful and I hope you have received trauma counselling. Please do get some support. There are also support groups that can assist you. Wishing you well.

  • Fuck, fucking hell. Shit like this is why i dont even let my daughter open the door when i am home, i make her wait for me to open it or i make her look out the window to see if she knows the person and then it must be family for her to open it. I am very wary of bad things happening in the home

  • What an awful thing to have happened to you. Timely reminder to reinforce opening doors to strangers.

  • Goodness me, that must have been absolutely terrifying for you all.

  • How terrifying. I can only hope they caught the bastards. I had a friend years ago who was attacked in her bedroom while her parents were tied up in their room – decades later she still struggles to get over it.
