As a child I suffered from ADHD I still rember all the times I was told to think before I acted, I remember the family therapy sessions we all had to go to and the drugs I was forced to take because people couldnt handle being around me. I was a pain I understood that but I hated those drugs, I was a very active child but whenever I had to take the pills I would turn into a zombie I no longer was myself, I didnt want to play I would just sit undercover whilst all the other children played. I remember my mum telling me I hope one day you have a child just like you! Well you guessed it, it happened! God help me was it really this hard for my mother? I somtimes feel like a horribble parent because sometimes I just cant deal with her and at times I may even let some vulgar language fly at her because shes just done another outrageously stuipid thing. So I can understand why frustrated parents would turn to ritalin or similar drugs, but as previously mentioned I had to take these myself so I know what it feels like to be on it and refuse to put her on it. A few months ago I was reading a medical research report into ADHD and they trialled the use of coffee on affected children with quite positive results, So me me quite curious decided to give it a go. It actually worked really well I gave her a cup of coffee when she was jumping around the loungroom at 8pm at night I was actually quite nervous that this would make her worse so anxiously I waited watching for the next 10mins and would you believe it calmed her down almost instantly! I have been using it ever since and it seems to work quite well and its a better option than the shock collar I was going to get ( just kidding). If you are in my situation give it a go see for yourself. Also if you have a crazy kid like me hang in there it does get better kids eventually grow out of it I was 15 myself before I stopped getting in trouble at school then I actually became quite an active listener.
Thanks for reading!

  • I am sorry for you pain and frustration. I take my hat off to you for your struggles….but remember we are all human and get mad and frustrated. You are not a bad person for getting mad. I had not heard about coffee…but there was a 3 -part series on ADHD (with on SBS or ABC, you might be able to google search it) and another related behaviour related disorder that can be related. It followed I think 4 families and a team worked with them focusing on parenting behaviours ways to try and handle certain situations. It was really interesting, and for you, you might be able to get a tip here and there that may suit you. There was one family where the father of a son had ADHD as a boy.

I am sure you are doing a wonder job as a mother :)
