Hello!

Last weekend two milestones were reached in our household. Our little boy reached 3 months of age, and I reached the milestone of feeding him breast milk for that time.

This might not sound like much, but with various personal challenges around breast feeding for me, I’m so glad that I’ve reached the goal I intended to achieve. They don’t sound like much: milk coming in late, cracked nipples, extremely sore spot on the nipple and baby taking longer and longer to feed instead of becoming more proficient. We got help from midwives, lactation consultants and maternal health nurses along the way, but it did make feeding a rather more stressful time than anticipated.

Our solution was a combination of expressed breast milk and formula, which worked well for both baby and me. My mental health improved and my son didn’t have to be constantly woken to continue the feed. Feeding time became a lot easier and my husband, as well as friends and relatives, were able to participate.

My milk supply has been slowly decreasing over the past three weeks, but I’m still going to continue to express as much as I can and see if we can reach the 4 month milestone.

  • Congratulations. I really know what you have been through as I had the same kind of problem. Unfortunately I couldn’t make for so long. Good on you to be strong and don’t give up.

  • Breast feeding can be so hard. You’ve done a great thing for your child, but remember he will be fine if you have to switch to all formula.

  • Good on you for persevering. Most people would’ve given up by now. Hopefully you’re over the hurdle & its smooth sailing for both of you. Fingers X’d
