1. make your lunch for work every day
– or store a loaf of bread, butter and cheese at work.
– or store a box of cereal at work, there is always milk in the fridge

2. If you can walk or cycle to work, do it. A brisk session in the morning clears your head and is a great division between home and work. It allows you to think, problem solve, plan and mentally debrief – as well as exercise.

3. You never need to buy a book, magazine or newspaper. You can borrow all of these items free from your local library. My library uses Borrow Box app for which you need a library number to login.

4. Haircuts can be expensive. If you are open, brave and have time on your hands, a student can cut and colour you hair for a fraction of the price. They are supervised by an experienced hairdresser so you won’t be left in the hands of an apprentice.

5. Grocery shopping. If you are after fresh food, go to the market about 30-60 minutes before closing time and nab yourself some bargains.

  • I don’t drive, so I walk everywhere or use public transport. I always prepare lunch for me, my hubby and my daughter. I bought CreaClip and cut my hair by myself! :-)

    • Cutting hair at home is definitely a huge saving and skills develop overtime too.

      • That’s true! With my daughter it’s easier because she’s got long straight hair, while my hair is layered and short so, in particular in the back, I don’t do such a great job! ;-) But once a year I can go to the hair dresser so he can adjust my mess! :-)

  • I also keep snacks and drinks in the car as it stops the “I am hungry and thirsty” requests for food when out.

  • Some great ideas here. We have a houseful of boys so I do all haircuts with haircutting kit we bought quite a while ago. This saves us quite a bit as the boys hair grows so quickly.
