On the 12/10/2011 I was due to have baby number 2, she was fashionably late and didn’t arrive, on the 12th I was sent into the hospital I was having her at for an antinatal check up and to see if I was dilated, I had not even dilated yet but my cervix was very soft, they then proceeded to tell me I had pre oclampsia and I needed a stretch and sweep to get things started, they reassured me if nothing happened by the 14th they would induce me, the 14th came floating by and I was still pregnant and nothing at all was happening, I was called back into the hospital for another stretch and sweep and to be told at 7am on the 15th I’d be induced, 7am came around I rang the hospital to be told I couldn’t be induced till 9am as there where too many people in the labour ward, 9am came around and still no phone call back to let me know what was happening once again I called them to be told now not till 12pm, it was around 11.30 when I started to get tight feelings in my stomach and feelings of needing to poo, at 12pm I had contractions 10 minutes apart but very strong, I rang back the hospital to let them know I was having contractions they blaintly told me they couldn’t have me come in right now because there wasn’t enough room, to take 2 panadol that will help with pain, so I did as they said, 1pm came around my contractions were. 4 minutes apart again I called the hospital to be told take 2 more panadol, 1.30 and my contractions were 1.5-2 minutes apart and I was in pain, again the hospital tell me to take two more panadol and to stay at home, 2 pm came by my contractions were less then a minute apart I called the hospital to be told once more to take 2 more panadol, this time I put my foot down and told them I was coming in and that was that, it was a 20 minute drive from my mother in laws to the hospital on the other side of the city, I got in the car with my partner driving as soon as I sat down in the car I felt a drop not the best feeling, after screaming at other motorists and my partner and crying telling him I couldn’t do it we made it to the hospital it was now 2.20pm my partner ran to get a wheel chair to get me up to the labour ward, what seemed like forever to get down the corodore and up the lift we made it to the labour ward, we got in there they told me they’d check how far dilated I am after me telling them I could feel a head, I had a practising baby doctor and a midwife in with me, after two pushes the practising doctor just managed to catch our beautiful little girl born at 2.26 pm 15/10/11 weighing in at a good 8 pound 14.

  • Congratulations, I’m glad all went well…..but the staff attitude at the hospital needs investigation. That is disgusting. They could have been problems while travelling that distance so close to delivery. Sounds like you were talking to a receptionist who has no comprehensive medical knowledge.
