Sitting down and reading some stories I wonder how many mums these days plan there days ahead. When my children were born I worked shift work cooked clean ,played many sports and had a social life. I would write down my week ahead. A Menu for a week,Cleaning duties day by day, Relaxation time,Sport and everything just fell in place. Ups and Downs came along and you just went with the flow. Hours of lost sleep was just a discussion and a laugh at times.

  • Different methods work for different families – I don’t tend to keep a list but I have a very good memory.

  • It certainly is a big change becoming a mum. I keep lots of lists and checklists and we have a shared e-calendar that my hubby and I use to keep track of everything. But it is still crazy sometimes trying to get everything done.

  • To be honest I try to plan around appointments, work and household duties but I am not very good at it…
    I am thinking that I probably should plan a little more, particularly as the time draws nearer to being on maternity leave (well actually I am casual so it will just be a particularly long break between shifts)

  • Sometimes I can’t be bothered to plan the upcoming week but then I suffer for it that week. I always feel a bit lost, things creep up on me and I generally feel quite stressed about it all. Just easier to make the time!

  • I like to plan but I do find with kids it can be a bit difficult and at time you just have to go with whatever the day throws you!

  • I like to plan and organise and I use planners, calendars and other organisational tools to keep track of everything and to stay ‘on track’.


    • yep mark things down on calculators. if you lose track of the day, make it a habit to cross off the day before’s date.

  • yeah i have a book which i write everything into and this helps me keep track of everything, bills, school stuff etc.

  • I love planning! It makes life so much easier. And you actually get to do so much stuff if you just plan it.


    • Planning does mean you get stuff done! Everything needs to be prioritised.

  • We plan ahead on a weekly basis but I dont write it all down. Different things work for different mums

  • Different people find different things work. It can be pretty hard to plan sometimes; kids are unpredictable, health issues can’t always be anticipated, and so on. I find a plan helps me (even if I have to abandon it), but that might not work for everyone.


    • I tend to agree with you. I have tried getting back to work, but had to give up my preference on the job front as it was just too much for everyone else. I still juggle a lot to keep on top of everything.
