Hello!

A few years ago I was at my friends house with my daughter who was aged 19 at the time. We were partaking in a couple of alcoholic beverages when all of a sudden she says “There’s something I should tell you mum, I am gay”. To say this surprised me is a lie as she was always sporting the undercut bob, wearing clothes from the boys department & played football & as her mum I guess I just had that mum feeling. I think she was very surprised that I wasn’t but I did however, mention to her I was surprised & disappointed that she chose to tell me that way & not in private. My friend however, who is gay then tried telling me the reason I wasn’t surprised was because I was in denial & deep down will never accept it. I mentioned I am in fact a very different type of person to her mother. I gave her a big hug & felt very sad for her. Since then we have lost contact. To this day I have no idea what happened to cause this. I think she wanted me to cause some sort of scene & when I didn’t she didn’t know what to do but I do know she wishes her mum was accepting of her choice. I do think of my friend from time to time but to this day & most likely forever more I have no idea why it ended like it did.

  • Why don’t you reach out to her? Ask how she is? If she’ld like to catch up,for a coffee? See if you can find out what happened and maybe fix it

  • What a wonderfully supportive mum you are and I’m sorry you have lost a friend over something that should bring joy – the truth.
