Hello!

My 6 year old woke up coughing on Tuesday, and so I kept her home from school, she just couldn’t seem to shake it. COme lunch time, she had crashed out on the couch and fell asleep for 3 hours. When she woke up, I gave her some panadol, as she said her head & stomach were hurting. Her sisters arrived home from school & she played with them for about half an hour before retreating back to the couch. I had been administering her ventolin puffer throughout the day, which was helping a little, but not a lot.

I decided to pick up the phone & call a doctor the house, while on hold I took one look at her & thought of taking her straight to hospital. I’m so glad that I did. The line in triage was long, I was holding her in my arms, waiting.

I arrived at the window to speak to the triage nurse, whom took her saturation levels straight away, and she wasn’t getting enough oxygen, they whisked her out of my arms & into an emergency bed immediately.

They started pumping her with ventolin, and other asthma medications. She came good for a minute & then her oxygen levels dropped dramatically, before I knew it, there were doctors & nurses everywhere, trying to get her oxygen levels back up. It took it’s time coming back up, and so she had to be admitted to the children’s ward. She spent 18 hours on oxygen, before she was able to breath room air at a safe level. Asthma is a scary illness, and hard to determine at times. So glad I trusted my Mummy instincts.
