  • yes – I don’t drink and I am constantly having to refuse drinks when I go out with friends or go to their houses.

  • You could go to Gold Class at the cinema, that way they get to drink, you can all eat and watch a nice movie. They may not be up for it, but you can always try.

  • Oh yes! My partner cannot go out and enjoy himself unless drinking alcohol is involved. We usually need a designated driver or taxi fare afterwards. It’s so frustrating as I’ve won some lovely nights out and had to,pass because of hubby and his inability to not drink when out :/

  • It is sadly in our crazy culture that to have fun we must drink….. time to change

  • I’m not so close to friends who drink for that reason… I don’t enjoy the evening drinking scene. I have one good friend who is the same so we see movies together (including the kids ones :P cinderella last week was amazing!!! We don’t have daughter yet)

  • Not really. I just speak up, and we usually manage to agree on a venue everyone’s comfortable with.

  • Tell them you don’t like doing that, and you’d prefer to go to dinner, a movie and then afterwards you can go out for a coldie (even if you don’t have a drink) with them. That way everyone is happy!

  • Maybe if you organise the next outing you can choose the location for dinner and a movie and your friends might just like it!

  • My girlfriends and I usually do dinner or coffees.

  • I agree; dinner and a movie is much nicer as you can actually hear each other chat. It is a preference; some people change their preferences as they get older and some people continue to like pubs. Both are fine; just go with what you prefer.

  • yep and ive lost a lot of so called friends all because I don’t feel the need to have a drink but that’s their loss I still have my kids and if they want to drink to be social so be it. I too prefer a movie or going out for tea. Maybe suggest to your friends drink free night they may or may but you can I try. Enjoy

  • Although I don’t mind either it is much easier to chat and relax for a meal and coffee (or a meal and wine).

  • I don’t drink. I never was a big party person. The last time I had more than 1 drink was at my wedding in 2011 between now and then I’ve only had 1 drink, on a new years eve with my husband and I just didn’t enjoy it. I’m happy and comfortable with being someone that just doesn’t drink but other people I know all have drinks involved when they’re on nights out.
