Hello!

One day I took my nephew out shopping with me, and as we were walking into the shopping centre, there was a group of young girls smoking cigarettes near the entry. I walked up to them and advised them that it was a no smoking area within 10 metres of the centre, so they got up and moved. As they were moving, my nephew (who was 4 at the time) started telling them how bad smoking was for them and how disappointed he was in them because they were going to die. I was completely shocked! The girls all looked at him and burst into hysterics, which caused him to become mad and he ran at them and punched them in the legs. I was trying to hold back my laughter because it was a pretty funny sight, but he was being naughty so I had to be stern and tell him off. Fingers crossed he continues to always hate smoking.

  • I am glad you reprimanded your nephew for punching the girls. Hopefully he won’t develop a habit of hitting others. He was obviously annoyed with them laughing. He has obviously been taught that smoking is bad. Some people are very irresponsible and drop the butts around instead of in the bin. At some point he may have picked one up or attempted to. A good time to talk to a child about it.

  • Good on you for telling him – what he did was wrong, violence is never allowed. People make good choices and bad choices but we can never be violent.

  • Yes, you do have to tell kids off when they hit people, even if you agree with what they’re saying.
