Hello!

Cycle 2 of our IVF journey. We’d miscarried cycle 1 and were pretty sensitive about ever getting pregnant. We did and I was fearful we’d miscarry this one as well. I spotted in the first 6 weeks. I had severe period like pain in the first 6 weeks. I was convinced I’d lost it. At 8 weeks, 24/7 morning sickness kicked in as well as headaches and pains all over. I was hospitalised for dehydration. I couldn’t keep food down. Wafers became my best friends as did my bedroom and ensuite. Luckily I had a supportive workplace who put up with my many days off. I was never well. At 20 weeks, my blood pressure went up and they monitored it more closely. It went down for 6 weeks and we thought we were on the home stretch. Then one week, my legs swelled up to the size of tree trunks. I felt absolutely terrible. The headache was so bad I could not stand. And then my eyesight went. We went to the doctor to discover I had severe pre-eclampsia. I was put in the back of an ambo and was rushed down the highway to the hospital. 24 hours later after many doctors had filtered into our room, we were taken into surgery for an emergency c-section. Our little baby girl was born weighing 1013 grams. I couldn’t hold my baby, she lived in a bubble attached to a machine and tubes. And looking around, there were many parents going thru the same hell for whatever reason made their babies come early. It was very scary. There was many ups and downs. We spent 80 days in hospital and feel extremely blessed that our little girl was born healthy.
