Hello!

With today being R U OK day, I just wanted to ask – are YOU OK? As someone who went through a terrible time in my 20’s after a loss, I know I found telling someone about how I was feeling – admitting I wasn’t OK was the hardest thing.

For me, it was a counsellor that my parents finally got me to go and see, that finally got through to me – let me know it’s OK not to be “OK”. From there, I went on to be a Lifelink Befriender ( a phone volunteer for Lifelink which is like Lifeline). The training I went through really helped me in the years after my loss, and being then able to go on and help others – just by listening, being there and checking that person was OK, had a profound impact on me.

So, i guess what I’m saying, even if you don’t think it will make a difference – it often REALLY does. So make sure you “touch base” with someone you care about today – and every day, and check whether they – and you R OK.

  • Except I’m not particularly ok, so can’t help anyone else right now, so it’s best to keep to myself.
