In the news there’s been lots about racism .I find it a bit unfair it’s about indigenous people being booed on the playing field.Bit of banter by the crowd does no harm but to boo a player everytime a player touches the ball is idiotic .Children soak up so much information & it’s not what I would like them to hear or see .Grown ups should concider what they Say & do .All races get bullied not just indigenous but not right in a spectator sport with children around .

  • I think it is both racism and bullying …mass bullying, mob mentality. Targetting one player for a season or more is just plain ridiculous. We do not hear what has been said to the player by people on the sidelines so how can we say it is not racism. There is one player in AFL who has been targetted and I have read glowing reports about him from those who know him and his works (from all races). He actually does a lot of good and his on field game is not dirty. He is a fair player – how else did he get the Brownlow for best and fairest for goodness sake.

  • It’s the media turning it into a racism thing. If it truly was racism, why aren’t all the indigenous players booed? I watched the preliminary final between Hawks and Dockers last night. Every time Sam Mitchell got a touch, the crowd went off with boos! And yes not indigenous, but he did upset the Dockers fans last time the 2 teams met

  • If you’re talking about the Adam Goodes hoo haa? I think that’s been blown totally out of proportion. The crowds aren’t booing because he’s Aboriginal, if that were the case, why aren’t the other Aboriginal players copping the same treatment? Goodesy is just a sook carrying on

    • I’m all for the booing to stop, that’s bad sportsmanship, but I don’t think it’s happening because of racism

  • There’s dozens of indigenous players in the afl, yet only Adam Goodes gets booed all the time. I really don’t think it has anything to do with the colour of his skin, rather the type of person and player he is. I agree that booing isn’t necessary though, but it seems he has made himself a target by the way he has been responding. Agree with it or not, but when you are in the spotlight like that people will judge you, heckle you and try to get a reaction, if you can’t cope with that maybe you should re think your career choice. Best bet is just not to feed the trolls.

  • It is very sad. I don’t want my child growing up as a racist

  • I completely agree! It is dreadful and our children are sponges. We must remember that

    • Exactly! Sadly I heard someone at the shops say that it is un Australian not to boo! I disagree!

  • It is poor sportsmanship to boo and it is not what we should be teaching kids.

  • Yes, I absolutely agree. It’s not what sport should be about.

  • Its sad as a child i was raised to see the person for who they are and what they stand for not the colour of thier skin or what religion they are. I hope i have raised my children to be the same. i would hate for my kids to pick on someone for been a little different. I say treat others how they treat you if its with respect well respect them back.
