Hello!

I love the rain. I’m a nature lover, but geez, all I’m after is one day so I can get out and walk around the park without fear of the heaven ps opening up and dousing me and my little guy. Anyone else feel the same?

  • It’s been a bit like that for me lately to, I love the rain as we have water tanks to fill and helps keep the pool topped up but I’m so hanging for the summer to come so we can actually get out and about.

  • I have to admit we haven’t really had good rainfall for sometime, and it’s been consistent… Fingers crossed it’s should ease up soon, but just think of what will grow after all the rain

  • I wouldn’t mind as much if it didn’t always seem to pour at school pickup time!

  • We had a great sunny day yesterday which I thoroughly enjoyed at playgroup. I think it was totally the pick-me-up that I needed. Of course, once summer comes we’ll probably complain about the heat ;)

  • We’ve had an early start to Spring here in Adelaide, with sunny weather for the past week or so. They’re saying that the farmers need more rain, and I guess our garden could do with it too. I know it wasn’t along ago that we were complaining about the cold and wet weather, and within a couple of months, we’ll be unhappy about the dryness and heat. I suppose going through each extreme makes us appreciate the other.

    • Yes you are right about ocmplaining about hot dry weather,
Now we have had a few really hot days and a really bad bushfire in the Adelaide Hills with about 30 houses and other buildings destroyed including business premises. There was large areas evacuated. There was 14 firefighters injured and many people taken to hospitals with breathing problems. Hospitals had nurses on standby in emergency depts. I know Modbury called some of its staff in to cope. Staff went out to the cars after finishing night shift one morning and their cars were covered in so much ash that they had to clean their windscreens to be able to see through them to drive home. It was one of our worst bushfires since Ash Wednesday in Jan or Feb 1983. Luckily that fire was put out by rain about a week after it started. There was also some smaller fires started by lightning. In Feb. last year we had a huge bushfire that burnt from Wirrabara Forest to all around the Beetaloo Reservoir and into Bangor Forest. It burnt for a month before it was compleetly extinguished. I have friends whose farming property was almost completely burnt out. It came with in about 30 metres of their house. When they got rain all the ash on the roof washed down into the rainwater tank. Although they aren’t not far from the reservoir they don’t have access to mains water supply. They had to boil their water until they got supplies of clean water. There was black soot all they way through their house even though every window and door was shut as they weren’t there at the time. There wasn’t one undamaged fence on the property. Most all they could find was burnt wire and remains of a few posts. They had a lot of uncleared land, Most of the trees were burnt, some right to the ground. Very few have started to regenerate. The devastation is horrific. You have to see it to really comprehend how so much has been completely destroyed. Fortunately friends have insurance, including their fences. Some in the area had no insurance at all – not even at below building value. One property that they thought had no building on and was inaccessible to fire crews because all they could see was trees as dense as a forest had an old building with thousands of dollars worth of antique furniture – no insurance. They complained bitterly that their buidling was saved by CFS crews. Some properties had properly done firebreaks , others didn’t and made it hard for crews to access the blaze.
The undergrowth from the rains we had recently has dried off and the areas not affected by the last fire will be vulnerable if there is another bushfire. Even in towns and outer metropolitan areas people haven’t cleared around their houses yet this Summer. We need plenty of rain to keep the soil damp to lessen the risk of fire spreading too fast if there is another one.
