Thank you for sharing your story!

Since having my second child almost 6 months ago, I feel like I have been the worlds worst mother to my first-born, a little boy who will be 3 in August. I feel like I am constantly yelling at him, sometimes for the smallest of things (like splashing the bath water). AT times he has even told me to stop barking – I feel terrible :(

He is generally a well behaved almost-3 year old – sure he has his moments when he won’t listen, but I know this is no excuse for yelling. I will read the blog link with great interest, and aim to stop the yelling as of NOW!

  • They should stop, look at you and listen. That way there is more chance that they are actually concentrating on what you are saying to them.

  • It sounds like it might mean a bit of time out. We all go through this as a mother but if it is happening everyday , maybe ask yourself how you are feeling ( eg are you always negative , anxious etc .. ) and it might be a sign of anxiety/depression that you may not be aware of . There is always a reason for everything and it is easy to forget about yourself when we have extra responsibilities with family .

  • Good on you for 1. admitting that you have a problem and 2. doing something about it! you are a better mother than what you think… good on you!!

  • Pretty sure most of us yell at our kids at some stage. And no, it’s not a great feeling afterwards. But a good point is at least you recognise and acknowledge you are doing it. That’s a huge step to making it stop

  • Learn to tell them. Stop, look, listen ask and then do. Eye contact at their level.

  • I hope it is easier now that they are a little older… and you are a little wiser :)

  • yelling definitely won;t solve the problem. if anything it makes it worst. Now that you know, maybe you can control it better
