Hello!

Well now where do I start …at the beginning possibly. Should this be in the story section or the answer section …well its my story so on here it goes and here I go. I have been giving the subject on recipes some serious thought lately. What actually constitutes a recipe to be ones own? A recipe on the web …who actually owns it? It is up to share is it not? One has a recipe passed down from a friend, family member, great great great gran Gertrude etc, you submit this, share it, but is it really your own recipe/work? Should a recipe be totally ones own, created from scratch, experimented, changed, tried and tested then woo hoo it’s perfect now ready to share …well hello we are all not Masterchef’s or Adriano Zumbo and if indeed you did create a wonderful recipe and shared it with a friend, is it ok for this friend to share it and sooo on. This month I actually submitted four Cheat recipes for a delicious Hen’s Breakfast using store bought products, I also included a family favourite recipe to go with this for those mom members who wanted to try their hand at making from scratch, I also included my own lovely photo of the finished recipe. To my complete shock/horror three of these recipes were rejected /not approved by the mom team. Why because they were from store bought products. One how ever was published first then the other three rejected, I could not quite get me head around this. Any how after emailing Mom and presenting my case, the out come was in my favour and all four were published. Are cheat recipes allowed ..well actually Nikki herself has submitted lovely ones. Personally some times there is a fine line between pleasure and pain. I also read a comment on a mom member recipe for Cheese on toast …another mom commented that this was not a recipe but simply points racking. Well although it was only toast, marg and cheese, it was indeed her own work and photo and yes one could say it was a recipe and as this mom nicely pointed out in her response, so did the mom team staff member that OK’ed the recipe for publication. Yesterday on the mom site I came across an old post/story that a mom member had written about points racking etc and boy did it get some responses, apparently it was not the first story to be written about this problem either.
Many members were annoyed about other moms simply posting to receive points etc. with one particular mom member in the firing line. This mom posts a lot of responses using two words …well I just tested this method and guess what I DID NOT receive points for my two words…I was sure this would be the case but needed to prove it any way. Sure I have a problem with/and think it’s totally wrong to completely cut and paste a recipe along with images from the net and would not do this myself. But I have been know to cut and paste in some circumstances..actually I posted a story on the recall of bread buns ..why because at the time I had read about this on the Herald Paper site and was worried and concerned about the safety of mom members and their families and seeing how Mom had not put the recall up on the site and I had no idea if indeed they were going too, I did what I though was right at the time. The Mom Team did upload this recall a while after my story ..Thanks Mom.
So I guess my advice would be please don’t get disheartened and stop posting your amazing recipes, comments etc ..if you have a particular gripe, are angry about a recipe being completely cut and paste from a site on the net or any other concerns Please email the lovely Mom Team they are there to help and along with your help and support this site can grow, flourish and become even better than it is now.
Looking forward to seeing all your amazingly wonderful submissions to the mom site ..I love to read, learn and be totally blow away by your fantastic creativeness and between you, me and hundreds of other wonderful moms and dads we can make this site just right. ????

Post your story
  • Yes I’ve been disheartened and no no anger, lol. What makes ones own recipe indeed ? everything is inspired from maybe another recipe, there’s always an overlap with other recipes, nothing is new really.
