Hello!

Recently MoM ran a competition to win a three month trial subscription to RedPawPaw, a company that was offering a box of (roughly) $30 worth of grocery samples delivered to your door, for a charge of $5 a month.
Well, I wasn’t a lucky winner, but I was interested enough to sign up with RedPawPaw. And the first box was pretty decent – some full size products, some samples, stuff that was worth trying. We were pleased.
And then late last night RedPawPaw sent out an email to all subscribers, advising that they were suddenly going to load an additional delivery charge – ranging from $7.50 to $15 a month – onto our subs. Even though we’d paid a year in advance. And they were only giving us a week’s notice, and then at the end of the week they’re going to take the full delivery cost – for 12 months – out of our accounts or cards. For some people that’s nearly $200. A huge sum!
Now, I don’t think this is legal. People bought a twelve month sub which was supposed to include delivery, and I don’t know how they can now triple or quadruple the charge (okay, for new subscribers, but for the existing?) legally. And it’s a bit much to do it with a week’s notice, too. How many people will not see the email and suddenly find they don’t have rent or grocery money next week?
So there’s a huge kerfuffle, but I wanted to warn anyone who was tempted by the competition run here – it seems this is a company to be wary of. Even if their actions turn out to be legal, they’re not ethical.

  • That’s not good at all! Maybe their business needs a boost? Not a great way to keep existing customers. Especially after paying months in advance

  • i think that if you have done the “contract” and paid for how ever many months in advance, then they shouldn’t stick this charge on

  • It’s been a while now and I was really annoyed at the start as my area has high postage costs, but I’ve continued to subscribe to redpawpaw each month and have been happy with the products each time. I will continue month by month as long as I continue to get good value for money (just not as good when it was $5 a box).

  • I was about to sign up but then saw heaps of posts on Facebook by unhappy customers about the increase and decided to hold off for now.

  • They must have had a lot of people cancel their subscriptions now they’re charging for postage. I’ve had an email every day this week, asking me if I still want to join them. But it’s still only for annual subscriptions, which I’m not prepared to do. Monthly would be fine, but I’m not paying up-front for a year with a company that already seems to be having problems.

  • They had complaints from their customers about the firm they used for delivery so now switching to AP as far as I know. I didn’t enter the MOM comp on here because they don’t deliver to my area and I wouldn’t have signed up with them even if they did deliver to my area as I get samples for free.

  • Mohave stick with them. I think they offered a great product at a ridiculously cheap price. That was proven in the amount of people on the waiting list. Will be interesting to see how it develops over the next 12 months.

  • Thanks for sharing your experience. It makes me feel quite angry to hear stories such as yours. You think you are getting a good deal and then the people with the power think they can just change the deal and everyone has to deal with it. Money can make people so greedy and wrong. Good luck to you with getting this resolved. I hope they come to their senses.

  • It seemed a little unrealistic that they would be able to cope with so many orders at a bargain price. Could see this happening they should have thought about this as a “promotional” stage to save such dismay for customers :(

  • Would have been deeply disappointed and angry if I had encountered this. Thanks for sharing and raising awareness for others!

  • I wasn’t even able to sign up as they told me they would not deliver to my area. I really wanted to sign up and receive the samples, but now after reading this, I am glad I wasn’t able to. I cannot believe what they are doing is legal!
